Picture yourself working beside a dedicated dentist … in a pleasant, clean, professional office … greeting and assisting patients ... with great hours, usually from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. … earning a secure future and solid benefits. Picture yourself enrolled in the Dental Assistant (DA) program at Texas State Technical College, where your education can lead you into this picture-perfect career.
If you are a self-motivated individual with good manual dexterity and steady hands, a warm and sensitive personality and good physical and emotional health, then this could be the career choice for you. Dental assistants use their skills and knowledge in office management, oral health counseling, laboratory procedures, dental radiography and radiation safety to assist in all phases of dental treatment.
As a TSTC Dental Assistant student, you can learn the latest skills and techniques with experienced faculty members who provide self-paced, individualized instruction and attention.
Applicants need to take their official immunization records to Admissions
and Records Office along with the Application for Admission. A copy of
these records must also be taken to the Dental Assisting Program on the day
you register. Immunization records need to show Diphtheria-Tetanus (within
the past ten years), Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B and Varicella.
Also, proof of the results of a Tuberculin Purified Protein Derivative (PPD)
that is current within the 12-month period prior to enrollment is required
along with annual updates. Provisional enrollment will be allowed with the
start of the first in a series of three Hepatitis B vaccines with the
requirement that the series must be complete for enrollment into DNTA
1466-Clinical Practicum. Students residing in campus housing are strongly
encouraged to have Poliomyelitis (Polio) and Bacterial Meningitis
immunizations. All immunizations records must be submitted to Admissions
and Records and to the DA program prior to registering for class.
